3 AYD6 PRAYER Dear Jesus and Good Lord, How wonderful is your love for me! Deep down in my heart, I know you to be the best friend forever! I do not know why, but I do feel an intimacy with you! Please help me Lord, to be more intimate with you and to know the power and mystery of your love. You love me, and so you carried the cross; you love me, and so you died on the cross; you love me, and so you want to give me a share in the joy and glory of your resurrection. Help me to carry my cross daily and follow you. Give me courage to be a martyr in my thoughts, in my desires, in what I do and think. Make my faith and trust in you strong and constant. Help me, dear Jesus, to see and experience how the glory of the martyrs shines on me as an Asian. Through the intercessions of the Asian martyrs, enable me, as well as all the Asian young Christians, to herald your Good News anywhere we go, under all circumstances. This I ask of you, my dear Savior and friend, through your Most Holy Name! Amen!

8 SEJARAH ASIAN YOUTH DAY Asian Youth Day (AYD) is a week long event hosted by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) that brings together Catholic youths from all over Asia for fellowship and spiritual growth. AYD provides this through the numerous youth ministry programs held during the event. AYD can trace its roots to World Youth Day in Czechoslovak, Poland (1991) where youth delegates from over 30 Asian countries attended the Third International Youth Forum to express their hopes to have a way to network, exchange and organize activities with the Catholic youths of Asia.

9 A call for a coordinated activity among the Asian youth was reiterated during a youth consultation conference in Bangkok, Thailand in 1993. Having heard the pleas of the Asian youths, FABC established the Youth Desk under FABC’s Office for the Laity so that youth leaders could begin sharing their faith by organizing activities among Catholic Asian youths. Asian Youth Day is among many programs organized by FABC’s Youth Desk.

20 ONE ASIA – ONE FAITH The Facilitator will guide the participants to look at a map of Asia, prepared ahead of time, to discover the vast territory and the beauty of the numerous countries. While listening to the AYD6 theme song, the groups will approach the basket containing cut pieces of all the Asian countries. The delegates will be invited to select one of these countries. The delegates will promise to commit to study and pray for that country during the preparatory process until AYD6 in August 2014. They will go back to their seats and pray in silence for this country for 2 minutes.

21 After all the delegates had the chance to select the countries, they will sit in a group of three to share what they know about the country they selected. The delegates will also discuss any feelings they have about that country – any prejudices, impressions, misunderstandings, etc. The sharing will last approximately 15 minutes.
