HASIL BIOMASA Net Biome Production While NEP only refers to changes in carbon in the absence of disturbances like harvest or fires, Net Biome Production (NBP) takes these losses into consideration. The NBP is the actual amount of terrestrial carbon uptake. In a steady environment the NBP would be zero since it accounts for human influences to the global carbon cycle, and the carbon losses (for example, Rh) would be equal to the NPP; however, human activities like deforestation and fossil fuel use greatly affects the global carbon cycle (Houghton, 2001). 5 HASIL BIOMASA Primary and Secondary Productivity An ecosystems NPP is the rate at which plants accumulate dry mass, usually measured in kg,m -2,yr -1, or as the energy value gained per unit time kJ,m -2,yr -1. This store of energy is potential food for consumers within the ecosystem. NPP represents the difference between the rate at which plants photosynthesize (GPP) and the rate, which they respire (R). This is because the glucose produced in photosynthesis has two main fates. Some provides for growth, maintenance and reproduction with energy being lost as heat during processes such as respiration. The remainder is deposited in and around cells represents the stored dry mass (NPP=GPP-R). Diunduh dari: http://sciencebitz.com/?page_id=204………….. 22/12/2012

HASIL BIOMASA Secondary Production. Importantly though animals do not use all the biomass they consume. Some passes through to become feces. Gross production in animals equals the amount of biomass or energy assimilated or biomass eaten less feces. As with plants some of the energy assimilated by animals is used to drive cellular processes via respiration the remainder is available to be laid down as new biomass. This is Net Secondary Production. Net secondary productivity (NSP ) = food eaten - faeces - respiration energy so NSP = GSP- R (just like plants) Diunduh dari: http://sciencebitz.com/?page_id=204………….. 22/12/2012

HASIL BIOMASA GPP An ecosystem's gross primary productivity (GPP) is the total amount of organic matter that it produces through photosynthesis. Net primary productivity (NPP) describes the amount of energy that remains available for plant growth after subtracting the fraction that plants use for respiration. Productivity in land ecosystems generally rises with temperature up to about 30°C, after which it declines, and is positively correlated with moisture. On land primary productivity thus is highest in warm, wet zones in the tropics where tropical forest biomes are located. In contrast, desert scrub ecosystems have the lowest productivity because their climates are extremely hot and dry Diunduh dari: http://www.learner.org/courses/envsci/unit/text.php?unit=4&secNum=3………….. 22/12/2012

HASIL BIOMASA NPP = Primary productivity in an ecosystem - the rate at which solar energy is converted into organic compounds. The units of productivity are kilocalories per square meter per year. Gross primary productivity - the total amount of energy produced, including the energy used by the plants for their own respiration. Net primary productivity - the rate at which plants store energy that is not used in plant respiration. Food chain : the specific sequence in which organisms obtain energy within an ecosystem. 11 HASIL BIOMASA SIKLUS KARBON Pathways of carbon cycling for plant allocation to leaves and roots. Belowground, plant C cascades through several reservoirs - live roots, dead roots, microbial biomass, and organic matter - each with their own mean residence times and respiratory losses. Some C is rapidly cycled in respiration or exudates. G/NPP = gross/net primary productivity; both gross and net are represented. 12 HASIL BIOMASA PRODUKSI PRIMER Plants produce plant matter from soil nutrients, water and carbon dioxide, using the energy of light. It is called primary production. The diagram shows the carbon flows (is equal to energy flows). At left one sees a plant receiving light and CO2 from the air and returning oxygen. At night, when there is no sunlight, plants respire like animals do, taking up oxygen and returning CO2. Surprisingly, a large proportion of a plant's primary production (50%) disappears underground, where it grows the root system and feeds soil organisms. Only 50% is used for above-ground growth. Of this, between 10 and 40% is used for growing, depending on plant type, age and kind of harvesting. If the plant is grazed regularly, the grown biomass will be grazed, amounting to no more than 40%. The remaining 10% is lost by leaf drop. This leaf litter is decomposed by fungi and bacteria, contributing energy to the soil biota, while returning nutrients to the plant. 13 HASIL BIOMASA Terrestrial Primary Production: Fuel for Life By: Christopher M. Gough (Department of Biology, Virginia Commonwealth University) © 2012 Nature Education Citation: Gough, C. M. (2012) Terrestrial Primary Production: Fuel for Life. Nature Education Knowledge 3(10):28 Tropical ecosystems, because of their high productivity and extensive footprint on the Earth's surface, comprise nearly half of global NPP and GPP (Table 1). Temperate ecosystems and croplands are also a substantial fraction of global terrestrial primary production, accounting for roughly a quarter of global NPP and GPP. Global estimates of terrestrial NPP range from 48.0 to 69.0 Pg (= Petagrams or 10 15 g) C yr -1, with global terrestrial GPP estimated at 121.7 Pg C yr -1 or approximately double global NPP on land. 14 HASIL BIOMASA The stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit are all visible displays of aboveground NPP (i.e., growth) that accrued over time — but what about belowground (root) NPP? Most of the NPP readily observed aboveground is matched in magnitude belowground by the less visible, but equally important, production of roots. For example, root growth comprised almost half of total ecosystem NPP in a ninety-year-old Michigan forest, indicating that belowground investments in biomass by plants are substantial. Net primary production (NPP) and standing biomass allocation for a 90-year-old Michigan forest estimated from inventory-based methods in which biomass growth is quantified over time (Gough et al. 2008) Diunduh dari: http://www.nature.com/scitable/knowledge/library/terrestrial-primary- production-fuel-for-life-17567411………….. 22/12/2012

Misalkan dengan asumsi produksi tebu 800 kuintal, rendemen 8,0 %, harga lelang gula Rp. 8.500,00, maka LABA = (PENDAPATAN – BIAYA BUDIDAYA) – (Biaya TA = Rp. 10.000,00 x T) = (Rp. 37.904.000,00 – Rp. 13.780.000,00) – Rp. 8.000.000,00 = Rp. 16.124.000,00 Parameter Kelayakan Usaha : a. Benefit of Cost Ratio (B/C rasio) = 37.904.000,00 : 21.780.000 = 1,74 b. Return of Investment (ROI) = 16.124.000 : 21.780.000 = 0,74 Diunduh dari: http://rosanmubarok.blogspot.com/2010/08/analisa-usaha-budidaya-tebu-1- hektar.html………….. 22/12/2012
