Data, Information & Knowledge Information systems are built to achieve specific goals, such as processing customer orders and payroll. In general, ISs process data into information and knowledge. Data, or raw data, refers to a basic description of products, customers, events, activities, and transactions that are recorded, classified, and stored. A database is a repository that consists of stored data organized for access, search, retrieval, and update. Information is data that has been processed, organized, or put into context so that it has meaning and value to the person receiving it. Knowledge consists of data and/or information that have been processed, organized, and put into context to be meaningful, and to convey understanding, experience, accumulated learning, and expertise as they apply to a current problem or activity.

IS & IT Sistem Informasi (SI)  adalah kombinasi dari teknologi informasi dan aktivitas orang yang menggunakan teknologi itu untuk mendukung operasi dan manajemen. Dalam arti yang sangat luas, istilah sistem informasi yang sering digunakan merujuk kepada interaksi antara orang, proses algoritmik, data, dan teknologi.

IS & IT Teknologi Informasi adalah suatu teknologi yang digunakan untuk mengolah data, termasuk memproses, mendapatkan, menyusun, menyimpan, memanipulasi data dalam berbagai cara untuk menghasilkan informasi yang berkualitas, yaitu informasi yang relevan, akurat dan tepat waktu, yang digunakan untuk keperluan pribadi, bisnis, dan pemerintahan dan merupakan informasi yang strategis untuk pengambilan keputusan. Teknologi Informasi tidak hanya terbatas pada teknologi komputer (software & hardware) yang digunakan untuk memproses atau menyimpan informasi, melainkan juga mencakup teknologi komunikasi untuk mengirimkan informasi (Martin, 1999).
