2 What is the development process?(1) There are a variety of views urban & real estate development. Most simple description is to understand development process as a variant of industrial production: > the output (product) is a change of land use and/or a new building > the process is to combine land, labor, materials and finance.

3 What is the development process (2) The reality in practice: (a) the output is non-typical and unique, in terms of its physical characteristics and/or its location. (b) the process is complex, consist from physical, non- physical and financial processes, (c) the process is taking place over a considerable time period. (d) the process is politically sensitive and operates under high public attention. (e) the product has an enormous impact for the environment, socially, economically and physically

4 (Consequences for) Education Concept (1) It is not enough to be educated and trained in fields of engineering. It is important to have basic knowledge in (a) political and social aspects of macro-economic development in general and of urban economic in particular. (b) micro-economic and corporate dimension of project development. It is also important to have basic competencies in project and asset/property management.

5 Education Concept (2) The courses Urban Economic dan (Urban) Struktur & Morphology and Development as basic know-ledges The courses Property and Real Estate Development dan Property Market Analysis have the goals (a) to give the theoretical basic of development process itself secara and (b) to discuss “the state of the art” of the property market and relevant cases of property projects (best practices).

6 Consequences For Education (3) Mata Kuliah yaitu Studio Proses (Studio 1) dan Studio Pengembangan Proyek (Studio 2) merupakan dua mata kuliah terpenting dengan tujuan: (1) memahami berbagai aspek proses pengembangan secara komprehensif, (2)pengembangan kemampuan untuk mengaplikasikan pengetahuan secara terintegrasi. (3) melatih mahasiswa untuk menghadapi kondisi riil sebagai persiapan masuk ke dunia kerja.

7 Metode Pengajaran Studio Proses Mata kuliah Studio Proses (Pengembangan) dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode “learning through simulation” dalam kelompok kerja di dampingi oleh sejumlah dosen dari mata- kuliah yang relevan. Bertujuan untuk membentuk kemampuan berpikir multidimensional. Bertujuan melatih mahasiswa untuk berpikir secara runtun (discourse) pada sebuah tingkat yang relatif abstrak. Melatih kemampuan meng-abstraksi proses dari kejadian sebenarnya, sehingga nantinya mampu merancang sebuah kejadian secara abstrak.

8 Studio 2 Mata kuliah Studio Pengembangan Proyek dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode “problem-based learning” yang bermaksud memberikan: (a) pemahaman permasalahan dan pelatihan skill- managerial bagi para pesertanya untuk memahami secara mendalam berbagai masalah praktis dan managerial yang terkait dengan proses pengembangan sebuah proyek properti / real estat. (b) Dengan mengambil contoh kasus-kasus yang nyata dan dengan melakukan “setting” yang se-riil mungkin, para peserta dilatih untuk mencari solusi dari masalah-masalah yang sesungguhnya di lapangan.
