2 What is tense ? Tense is the form a verb takes to show the time it happened. What is simple present tense ? A tense that is used to describe habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangements.

3 THE FUNCTION OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
To express habits, general truths, repeated actions or unchanging situations, emotions and wishes: I smoke (habit) I work in London (unchanging situation) London is a large city (general truth) I feel good (emotions) I wish I can have a big house (wishes)

4 THE FUNCTION OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
To give instructions or directions: You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left. To express fixed arrangements, present or future: Your exam starts at 09.00

5 THE FORMULA OF SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
Positive : S + V1 (-s/-es) Negative : S + do/does + not +V1 Interrogative : Does/do + S + V1 Note : Always use V1 The third singular person (she, he, it) is always followed with a V1 + -s/-es and uses “does”

7 The rules for adding s/es to the verb with subject (she,he,it) :
Setiap kata kerja yang berakhiran ‘s’, ‘o’, ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘x’ dan ‘z’ selalu di tambah dengan akhiran ‘ES’ : kisses, fixes, finishes, discusses, catches, etc. Setiap kata yang berakhiran Y dan sebelumnya adalah huruf mati, maka di tambah akhiran ‘ES’ : studies, carries, flies, replies, etc. Kata kerja yang berakhiran dengan Y namun diawali dengan huruf Vokal, maka cukup di tambah dengan ‘S’ : buys, plays, says, lays, etc.
