3 Apa itu Radio Internet? Istilah lain:
Web radio, net radio, streaming radio, e-radio Internet radio is an audio broadcasting service on the Internet. Siaran online sering disebut webcasting (TIDAK dipancarkan melalui saluran wireless atau frekuensi). Radio on the Internet!

5 Jenis Radio Internet 1. AM/FM Broadcast Stream
Streaming siaran AM/FM (simulcasting) Streaming siaran radio terrestrial plus penambahan fasilitas lain, a.l. bisa mendengar atau mendownload ARSIP siaran (misal : BBC) 2. Internet-only Radio Stations Streaming of internet-only broadcasts dimana program ditentukan oleh pengelola (“push” technology) Customized streaming of internet-only broadcasts dimana konsumen bisa terlibat secara interaktif (interactivity) dalam menentukan konten program (“pull” technology) 3. Podcasts, di mana konsumen bisa mengunduh program tertentu untuk didengarkan ('On-demand' file serving).

7 Mengapa Radio Internet ?
Radio is not limited to AUDIO Bisa dilengkapi foto, gambar, teks, link, serta fasilitas INTERAKTIF, seperti message boards dan chat rooms. Contoh: radioppidunia.org, npr.org Tidak menghabiskan space di hard drive. Bisa didengarkan di mana pun, kapan pun. Tak ada batasan geografis. Biaya murah, bahkan zero cost Appeal to niche listeners (micro-communities)

Availability: Worldwide, Anywhere, anytime Namun, ada kendala: Some sites are available only for users in specific countries Problems with regard to device connected to the Internet Free vs. pay for access models Internet crashes

Internet proliferation Increased 3G coverage and sales of Internet capable phones

10 Sejarah Singkat Radio Internet
1994 : Radio Kampus the University of North Carolina  Radio pertama siaran melalui Internet. 1994: Rolling Stones concert  first major cyberspace multicast concert. 1995: Progressive Networks  RealAudio as a free download. 1996: Virgin Radio London  first European radio station to broadcast its full program live on the internet (multicasting)

1996: The International Webcasting Association End of 1990s Thousands of Internet radio stations and music sites online. 2000s Internet radio has become a growing phenomenon Internet radio will certainly become a bigger force in society and may be the first giant step toward world integration and globally-minded content. Audience of 50 million people: Radio 30 years, TV 13 years, Internet 4 years.

12 Perbedaan RT dan RI (Pasar)
Radio Terrestrial Radio Internet Teknologi: gelombang radio/Frekuensi. Sinyal radio terbatas di area khusus. Keterbatasan gelombang radio secara geografis. Community of Location: program harus terkait dengan area siaran tertentu. Lokasi punya peran penting dalam penyusunan program. Community of Interest dalam Community of Location Radio Internet tidak bisa memasukkan konten yang ‘very local content’ dlm program. Radio Internet lebih mengacu pada faktor Communities of Interest. Radio Internet mengabaikan faktor Community of Location

13 Perbedaan RT dan RI (Content)
Radio Terrestrial Radio Internet Mengadopsi format yang mirip untuk setiap target pasar. Centralised music playlists with little or no local variation Selected music from a smaller library of artists and songs Incorporated less new music into their output Overlapped each other’s formats significantly Shoutcast.com: 95% music-based; 5% speech-based. “Narrowcasting”: isolated numbers of people who may only make up a small proportion of the population in their localities, but are sufficiently significant in number globally to support a dedicated radio station.

Secondary activity: Mendengarkan sambil melakukan kegiatan lain (khususnya saat driving). Consistent technology: radio transistor Radio 1.0 Mendengarkan radio sambil beraktivitas di depan komputer. Internet dan gadget memudahkan orang untuk mengakses Radio Internet tanpa harus melalui komputer. Radio 2.0
