Pendahuluan This presentation provides an overview of the Global Gateway and how it can support teachers internationally to develop the international dimension in their teaching. The presentation should last between 15 and 20 minutes. Notes are provided where appropriate. Before making the presentation please familiarise yourself with the Global Gateway and the FAQs accompanying this presentation.

Mempelajari negara dan budaya lain, khususnya lewat kerjasama dengan pihak-pihak yang terlibat dalam dunia pendidikan di negara tsb ‘seseorang tidak dapat dikatakan sudah mendidik generasi muda sekarang ini tanpa memperkenalkan wawasan internasional sebagai bagian yang signifikan dalam pengalaman belajar mereka’ - Charles Clarke, November 2004 (dikutip dari kata pengantar dalam DfES International Strategy) Charles Clarke was the UK Education Secretary who initiated the Global Gateway.

4 Mengapa dimensi/wawasan internasional dalam pendidikan menjadi penting di abad 21 ini?
A free-at-the-point of use international website developed in conjunction with teachers for all stakeholders in education: Developed by the British Council for the UK Department of Education and Skills, the Global Gateway was launched in February It’s free to use and is designed for all stakeholders in education – it has separate zones for teachers, young people, school leaders, parents, school governors and local authorities. Teachers have been involved in the development of the Global Gateway from the start – teachers sit on the editorial board and teacher feedback – both from UK teachers and teachers in other countries - has helped ensure that the Gateway is an effective, user-focussed resource. A comprehensive one-stop shop for international education resources and services: The Global Gateway promotes the international dimension in education. It aims to be the international portal for all activity in international education internationally - the intention is that the Global Gateway will become the single point of online access for all aspects of international education. An international partner-finding facility: International partnerships at all levels – school, teacher, school leader, local authority – are at the heart of what the Global Gateway is about. These partnerships can link any countries in the world – not only the UK and other countries. A powerful, easy to use partner-finding tool allows schools and other educational bodies to identify and contact suitable partners from around the world. A way of building and sustaining international education partnerships: The Global Gateway can help users not just to form partnerships but to develop those partnerships into something powerful and lasting.

Teachers don’t need a lab full of computers to be able to enrich their lessons with the resources and information the Gateway offers. Even using the Global Gateway in an internet café can provide a wealth of material that can then bring an international dimension to lessons. Many of the collaborative projects accessible through the Gateway, for example, are designed to be done offline.
