2 Personal Letter 1.  Definiton A personal letter is a type of letter (or informal composition) that usually concerns personal matters (rather than professional concerns) and is sent from one individual to another.  Languages features Focus on exchanging personal current news, feelings, and conditions Use of pronouns, simple present tense, and past tense Use of date and address Informal greetings or salutations  Generic structure - Heading (Date) - Greeting - Body Of Letter - Complimentary Close - Signature  Social Function -Social function of personal letter is to inform that the receiver that the sender wants to tell an important thing like personal feelings, thoughts, or experiences, which are meant to be read by a specific person.  Characteristic -Informal Letter Casual, less stiff, friendly language -Formal letter More stiff

3 Invitation 2.  Definition invitationis definedas a written or spoken request to come to an event such as a party, a meal, or a meeting or document that presents a formal request for the presence of an individual, a group of people or an organization at an event.  Social Function Invitation used to invite someone to come, to invite people to join, to ask someone to attend, and to ask people to take part in an occasion.  Generic Structure: - Name of the person who invite - Request for participation -Name of the person invited -The occasion for invitation - The time and date of occasion -The place of occasion -The request for reply  Language Feature: -Using imperatives. (e.g.: please come to my birthday party; just bring yourself; don’t bother) -Using pronoun. (e.g.: everybody; you; all of you, etc) -Using passive voice. (e.g.: you are invited)

4 ANNOUNCEMENT  Definition An announcement is a statement made to the public or to the media which gives information about something that has happened. that will happen.  Social Function An announcement is used for giving people some information of what has happened or what will happen.  Generic Structure : Stating Purpose: The text that contains what event will be held Stating Day and Date: Day and Date realization. The text that contains when the event will be held Stating Place: The text that contains where the event will be held Informing Sender: The text that contains name of the person who will be contacted  Language Feature : Using Simple Present Tense. Using Simple Future Tense. Using exact nouns. Focusing on pronunciation and intonation (spoken announcement) and spelling and punctuation (written announcement).

5 4.ADVERTISEMENT  Definition Advertisement is notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or publicizing a job vacancy.  Social/Language Function To urge the listener or reader to buy or use the product or services being advertised, to announce about a product, services, or an event to the public, and to convince of communication about a product, services, or an event so that the user effort to use the product or services.  Type: Print Ads Advertorial Display Ads  Generic Structure : Purpose: purpose built of the advertisement. Name of product: product names in advertising. User: user of the product.  Language Features : Using the choice of words related to necessary information. Using the choice of words to indicate the target. Using the choice of words that is precise, logical, and courteous. Using the choice of the words that have a suggestion for the audience.
