Bathgate (1983) states that there are seven steps in translation process, namely : (1) Tuning=penjajagan, (2) Analysis=penguraian, (3) Understanding=pemahaman, (4) Terminology=peristilahan, (5) Restructuring=perakitan, (6) Checking=pengecekan and (7) Discussion=pembicaraan.

13 (1)Tuning means the translator should know the context of the text, the author, the language style used and « understand » it. (2) Analysis: the translator try to break the SL text into clauses and phrases and see the syntactical relation one another. (3) Comprehension. the translator try to catch the overall meaning of the text and be equipped with his vast knowledge of the text. (4) Terminology: an effort to find equivalent and appropriate terms for the transfer from SL to TL e.g: emergency exit: pintu kecemasan or pintu darurat?

14 Restructuring: try to make new structure in TL after the SL text has been splitted structurally and semantically into clauses, phrases and words. Checking means proofreading. The translator check the overall text and may consult to other people/the linguists/editor/ Discussion: the final result in TL and ready to be critisized or otherwise praised by other people. .
