4 Intonation Intonasi kalimat ialah gabungan dari bermacam-macam gejala yang umumnya disebut tekanan nada, tempo, dan jeda dalam mengucapkan satu kalimat. Intonasi merupakan lagu kalimat yang meliputi nada atau tinggi dan rendahnya lagu kalimat, dan dinamik atau keras dan lemahnya lagu kalimat.

5 Macam intonation antara lain sebagai berikut: 1. Intonation declarative. 2. Intonation introgative. 3. Intonation imperative.

6 Example; 1. What do you mean. = wˈʌt doʊ ju min. 2
Example; 1. What do you mean? = wˈʌt doʊ ju min? 2. You must be good boy. =ju mʌst bi gʊd bɔɪ 3. Close the door! = kloʊs ðə dɔr 4. "You have finish your homework today !" mother said = ju hæv fɪnɪʃ jˈɔr hoʊmwɜrk tədeɪ

7 There are four kinds of sentences

8 Simple Sentence (terdiri dari satu independent clause) ex: The ship arrives late
Compound Sentence (terdiri dari dua atau lebih independent clause) ex: I borrowed him the book, but he didn’t read it. Complex Sentence (terdiri satu independent clause dan satu atau lebih dependent clause) ex: I was sleeping when you called Compound-Complex Sentence (kombinasi compound dan complex sentence)

10 1. Assertive or declarative sentence (a statement)
An assertive sentence is a sentence that states a fact. Such sentences are simple statements. They state, assert, or declare something. Examples: Jan is a student. She lives in a big city.

11 2. Imperative sentence (a command)
Imperative sentence is a sentence which gives a command, makes a request, or express a wish. Examples: Go to your room. (an order) Please lend me your book. (a request) Have a good time at the picnic. (a wish)

12 3. Exclamatory sentence (an Exclamation)
Exclamatory sentence is a sentence that expresses sudden and strong feelings, such as surprise, wonder, pity, sympathy, happiness, or gratitude. Example: What a shame! Boy, am I tired!

13 4. Introgative sentence (an question)
Interrogative sentence: A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence. Examples: What is your name? Where do you live?
