ATEX is the Explosive Atmospheres directive 94/9 C which covers equipment used in hazardous areas. ATEX adalah Explosive Atmosphares (Atmosfer mudah meledak) instruksi 94/9 C yang mencakup peralatan digunakan dalam daerah berbahaya kebakaran. Adopted in 1994 with a transition period ending 6/30/03. After this date, all products sold and used in the EU must conform to requirements of the directive. Diambil dalam tahun 1994 dengan masa transisi akhir 30 Juni 2003. Setelah tanggal tersebut, semua produk yang dijual dan digunakan di Eropa harus memenuhi persyaratan instruksi (94/9 C) / standard. In order to sell/use hazardous area products in Europe/Asia, CENELEC approval to the ATEX directive is mandatory. Untuk menjual / menggunakan produk dalam daerah berbahaya di Eropa / Asia, persetujuan CENELEC terhadap instruksi ATEX adalah mutlak.

ATEX Groups Apparatus Group I – applies to “mining operations” that may be endangered by methane gas and/or combustible dusts Peralatan Group I – selalu dipakai di “operasi pertambangan” yang mungkin berbahaya oleh gas metan dan / atau debu mudah terbakar Apparatus Group II – applies to apparatus used in all other areas that can be subject to the hazard of an explosive atmosphere. Peralatan Group II – selalu dipakai pada peralatan yang digunakan di semua daerah yang dapat berresiko bahaya atmosfir mudah meledak. Apparatus Group III – applies to apparatus used in areas with conductive dusts Peralatan Group III – selalu dipakai pada peralatan yang digunakan dalam daerah berisi debu konduktif.

ATEX Categories Category 1 – The apparatus is intended for use in areas in which an explosive atmosphere is present “ continuously” or “ for long periods of time” (Zone 0 apparatus) Kategori 1 – Peralatan digunakan di daerah dimana atmosfir mudah meledak ada “secara terus menerus” atau “untuk perioda waktu yang panjang” (Peralatan Zona 0) Category 2 - The apparatus is intended for use in areas in which an explosive atmosphere occurs “ occasionally” (Zone 1 apparatus) Kategori 2 – Peralatan digunakan di daerah dimana atmosfir mudah meledak berada “secara kadang-kadang” (Peralatan Zona 1) Category 3 – The apparatus is intended for use in areas in which no occurrence of an explosive atmosphere is expected. If it does occur, it is “only rarely” or “for a short period of time” (Zone 2 apparatus) Kategori 3 – Peralatan digunakan di daerah dimana atmosfir mudah meledak tidak diharapkan ada.
