The Ideal Number of Hierarchical Level Jadi idealnya berapa?? Principle of minimum chain of command Organisasi memilih minimum number of hirarki level Organisasi menjaga tetap Flat sesuai dengan tujuan & lingkungan organisasi  sehingga masalah-masalah tersebut akan berkurang

The Ideal Number of Hierarchical Level The only reason for an organization to choose a tall structure over a flat structure is when it needs a high level of direct control or personal supervision over subordinates Ex: Nuclear powerplant

Solusinya: Organisasi berusaha avoid too tall tapi tetap dapat maintain & control  dengan… Span of control (Rentang Kendali) Ada 2 jenis : Wide Narrow

Teori Birokrasi Menunjukkan hirarki dari otoritas Tetapi ada positif dan negatifnya Principles of bureaucracy: A bureaucracy is founded on the concept of rational-legal authority Organization roles are held on the basis of technical competence, not because of social status, kinship or heredity A role’s task responsibility and decision-making authority and its relationship to other roles in the organization should be clearly specified The organization of roles in a bureaucracy is such that each lower office in the hierarchy is under the control and supervision of a higher office Rules, standard operating procedures, and norms should be used to control the behavior and the relationship among roles in organization

Untuk tetap menjadi Flat Organization, dapat dengan: Penggunaan organisasi informal untuk memotivasi, informasi dalam peningkatan kinerja Penggunaan IT, self management, work team

Determinan yang lain: Politik Keputusan struktural  proses politik Para pengendali organisasi membuat keputusan struktur organisasi merupakan hasil pertarungan kekuasaan koalisi Koalisi  kepentingan kelompok tertentu

Politik Adalah usaha anggota organisasi untuk memobilisasi dukungan dan tantangan terhadap kebijakan Politik  penerapan kekuasaan

Mengapa keputusan struktural dikatakan sebagai politik? Karena akan menguntungan koalisi tertentu Akibatnya: yang berkuasalah yang menentukan segalanya
