Migrasi (1) the movement of persons from one country or locality to another a group of people migrating together (especially in some given time period) any movement by humans from one district to another, sometimes over long distances or in large groups. Migrate: – move from one country or region to another and settle there, – move periodically or seasonally, – traveler who moves from one region or country to another
Migrasi (2) International migration: – occurs when persons cross state boundaries and stay in the host state for some minimum length of time – The process of moving from one country to another with the intent of establishing a new permanent or semi-permanent residence dua jenis: – voluntary migration: perpindahan individu didasari oleh motivasi sendiri: mencari kehidupan sosial, ekonomi, dan budaya yang lebih baik. – forced migration: perpindahan individu akibat keterpaksaan.
Forced Migration refugees internally displaced person – mereka yang kehidupannya terkena dampak bencana, apakah bencana yang dibuat oleh manusia (perang, konflik, kekerasan fisik dan/atau mental), juga bencana yang disebabkan oleh alam. stateless, smuggled dan trafficked people (misalnya anak- anak dan perempuan yang dijual): uprooted people.
Common Problems Refugee: kesulitan mulai dari proses pemberangkatan s/d proses penerimaan di host country. masalah sosial, ekonomi, budaya, dan terkadang politik di negara tempat tinggalnya yang baru. – proses adaptasi tidak mudah. – masalah diskriminasi, akses ke lapangan kerja, fasilitas kesehatan dan pendidikan.
Issue at the Host Country – Support-system: sangat terbatas – Threshold prejudice: collective social identities – Xenophobia: – Nationalism or Ethnocentrism: a mild form of racism – Otherness Migrant is a tabula rasa: a person with no story, no selfhood, no history.
