Mengingat alamat IPv4, mengklasifikasikan menurut jenis dan menggambarkan bagaimana digunakan pada jaringan. Penjelasan bagaimana alamat dialokasikan ke jaringan oleh ISP dan dalam jaringan oleh administrators. Menentukan bagian jaringan dari alamat host dan penjelasan peran subnet mask dalam membagi jaringan. Mengingat informasi pengalamatan IPv4 dan kriteria desain, menghitung komponen pengalamatan yang tetap. Perlunya pengujian umum untuk memverifikasi dan menguji konektivitas jaringan dan status operasional dari stack protokol IP pada sebuah host.
