Comparative degrees : Level of comparison used when comparing people or objects with something else. The degree of comparison is composed of adjectives and adverbs that compare a measurable, subjective (individual's view) and objectively (the view of many people or can be measured by measuring instruments).

Rumus comparative degrees : S + To be/ To be Not + As + Adjective/Positive degree + As + Noun/Pronoun

Example Comparative Degree One syllable (satu suku kata) I am easier to forget a problem than she is. (Saya lebih mudah melupakan suatu masalah daripada dia.)

Adjective yang terdiri dari satu suku kata ditambahkan suffix (akhiran) –er. Biasanya terjadi double huruf consonant diujung kata pada kata yang berpola huruf diujung: consonant-vocal-consonant.

Example : The student is quicker to learn English than her friend. (Siswa tersebut lebih cepat belajar bahasa Inggris daripada temannya.)

Namun jika adjective berasal dari past participle, lebih sering digunakan kata more atau less didepan adjective tersebut. Contoh: The worker seemed more tired than the other. (Pekerja tersebut tampak lebih lelah dari yang lain.)

Example : The worker seemed more tired than the other. (Pekerja tersebut tampak lebih lelah dari yang lain.)

More than one syllable (lebih dari satu suku kata) Adjective yang lebih dari satu suku kata, ditambahkan kata more atau didepannya. Contoh: beautiful-more beautiful playful-more playful

Example : This park looks more beautiful than the other park.

Pada two syllables yang ber-ending -y, huruf “y” tersebut direduksi kemudian ditambahkan suffix –ier. Contoh: cloudy-cloudier easy-easier happy-happier

Today is cloudier than yesterday Example : Today is cloudier than yesterday

Beberapa adjective dapat dibentuk dengan menambakan suffix -er. Contoh: clever-cleverer narrow-narrower simple-simpler

Your design is simpler than his design. Example : Your design is simpler than his design.

Questions : I was ………………………. (embarrassed) than Alex about the test scores. His performance is …………… (bright) than other stars.
