6 6  Sabah adalah negara bagian di Malaysia yang memproduksi rumput laut secara komersial. Terdapat pula 2 pabrik pengolahan rumput laut di Sabah.  Rumput laut diproduksi di 4 districts dalam skala besar: Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kudat, dan Kunak.  Jenis rumput laut utamanya: Kappaphycus alvarezii and Eucheuma spinosum sebagian besar untuk keperluan ekspor.

7 7 Rumput laut dan produk berbahan dasar rumput laut yang akan masuk ke Malaysia harus memiliki Certificate of Analysis (parameter of inorganic arsenic) yang dikeluarkan oleh laboratorium yang terakrediatasi dari otoritas yang kompeten dari negara pengekspor. Hal ini sesuai dengan yang dipersyaratkan oleh Food Safety and Quality Division Ministry of Health of Malaysia. PERSYARATAN IMPOR
