PENDAHULUAN Etika penulisan penting dipahami. Banyak penulis yang tidak tahu. Akibatnya banyak plagiat tanpa sengaja. Sangsi plagiat sangat berat.

PENGERTIAN ETIKA Etika berasal dari bahasa Yunani. Etika adalah studi yang sistematis dari konsep-konsep nilai baik, buruk, harus, benar, salah dan sebagainya. Etika vs moral.

HAK-HAK PENULIS Perlindungan atas karya tulisnya. Bebas mempublikasikan karyanya. Mendapat kesempatan yang sama untuk mempublikasikan. Mendapat biaya publikasi. Mendapat royalti atau honorarium.

KEWAJIBAN PENULIS Menjunjung tinggi posisi terhormatnya. Tanggap terhadap usul/koreksi dari penyunting. Menjunjung tinggi hak orang lain. Menghormati pembaca. Merevisi karyanya jika diminta penerbit. Melaksanakan atau memberi izin. Mengajukan naskah sesuai dengan format. Mengutip secara benar. Membantu penerbit.

TANGGUNG JAWAB PENULIS Semua kesalahan isi terbitan, plagiat yang dilakukan, ketidakbenaran isi tulisan dan menanggung segala bentuk hukuman yang berlaku. Jika terdapat kesalahan dalam tulisannya, maka penulis harus secara jujur mengoreksinya. Menulis karya yang tidak menimbulkan keresahan pada masyarakat.

PLAGIARISM Hal pembajakan/pencurian berupa penggunaan fakta, penjelasan, ungkapan dan kalimat orang lain secara tidak sah. Atau mengambil pendapat orang lain dan disiarkan sebagai pendapat sendiri. Hasil penggunaan secara tidak sah tersebut disebut plagiat.
